The main focus of Margaret Crawford's watercolors is the
shadow play on flowers. She paints these blossoms dramatically and larger
than life. Her backgrounds are developed in an abstract manner and the
main subject is completed realistically through the use of subtle glazes
of transparent color. Some other favorite painting subjects are gardens
and architectural details. She finds material for her paintings in towns
up and down the East Coast.
Margaret has juried both state and national exhibitions.
She has given many workshops in the state and has become a popular demonstrator.
She is currently teaching an ongoing watercolor class at the Guild of
Creative Art.
She is a signature member of the New Jersey Water Color
Society, currently serving as President; The Catherine Lorrilard Wolfe
Art Club, where she has served as Painting Chair, Slide Chair and Dinner
Chair; the Garden State Watercolor Society; the American Artists Professional
League; and the New Jersey A.A. P. L.
Margaret has won many national, state and regional awards.
Ms. Crawford received her training at the Pittsburgh Art
Institute, Carnegie Technological Institute, The Art Students League
and she has taken workshops with many fine painters. She works also
works in acrylic, pastel and oil but her main interest is watercolor.
She is currently represented by the Ocean Side Gallery
in Belmar, N.J. and the Red Paino Gallery in Hilton Head, South Carolina.
