From an early age the artist has drawn and painted. He received his first art training from his Dad who was a professional artist and a college art professor. Later, Don won an art scholarship to the Art Student’s League of New York. Further training in painting and drawing was achieved while on an art scholarship to the University of Georgia (BFA) and then he completed his training in painting and sculpture at Columbia University (MFA). Although professionally trained in the field of fine art, Don trained in educational administration (Ed.D) becoming a secondary school principal. Now retired Don devotes himself full time to his art.

Don and his wife, Dolores, who is also a retired educator, have a grown son who has followed in the family’s footsteps pursuing a career in the field of education.

Besides his involvement with the Plein Air Painters of the Jersey Coast, the artist belongs to the Guild of Creative Art (where he is an exhibiting member), the Art Students League of New York (life member), and the New Jersey branch of the American Artists Professional League, the Printmaking Council of New Jersey, the Art Alliance and the American Impressionists Society. In addition, Don holds associate membership in the Oil Painters of America and the Allied Artists of America. The artist has exhibited both nationally and regionally, most recently exhibiting with the Hudson Valley Artists Association in their 75th Annual National Show in New York City.  In addition, Don has had one of his coastal scenes displayed in Plein Air Magazine (January, 2005 issue).
